HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING

My life goes on in endless song
Above Earth's lamentations.
I hear the real, though far off hymn
That hails a new creation.
Through all the tulmult and the strife
I hear its music ringing.
It sounds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?

And though the tempest loudly roars
I hear the truth, it liveth.
And though the darkness 'round me grows
songs in the night it giveth.
No storm can shake my in most calm
While to that rock I'm clinging.
When love is Lord of Heaven and Earth
How can I keep from singing?

When tyrants tremble in their fear
And hear their death knell ringing.
When friends rejoice both far and near
How can I keep from singing.
In prison cell or dungeon vile
Our thoughts to them are winging.
When friends by shame are undefiled
How can I keep from singing?

Yes it is from Enya. And I would never try to dictate subject matter to someone visiting my blog! Smile. Its from the CD Shepard Moons. I would have given her credit, but I'm not sure if she wrote it or just used it. I suspect it is an old hymn. Thanks for visiting. And yes I know who you are. Smile again.

I'm sure you both know this, but that is an old (and wonderful) old hymn that precedes Ms. Enya.

For the record.

Thanks for the info. I suspected as much, but never had the chance to track it down for sure.
