Movie Quotes

I am a self - professed movie junkie. These are some of my favorite quotes. Please feel free to share your own.

Capt. Jack Aubrey, Master and Commander

"...happiness can be found even in the darkest of times,
when one only remembers to turn on the light."

Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

"Everything here is eatable. I'm eatable, but that, my children, is called cannibalism
and it is frowned upon in most societies."

Willie Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

"Why do we fall, sir? So that we might better learn to pick ourselves up."
Alfred Pennyworth, Batman Begins

"What we do in life echoes in eternity."
Maximus, Gladiator

"I wasn't scared to die."
Pai, Whale Rider

"I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way."

From the great and terrible movie, The Mission, this quote needs a bit of intro:

Following the slaughter of South American indians, the secular authorities indicate that The Church did what she had to do because we must live in the world, and the world is thus. To which a clearly horrified cardinal responds by saying:

"No, thus have we made the world. Thus have I made it."

Thanks Dan, and I too would agree that The Mission is a great and terrible movie.

I was going to add some of fav movie quotes here when you originally posted this entry mi amiga but then decided not to do so because they would require too much context to make any sense. I’ve changed my mind since then in the hopes that the below two quotes would spark an interest for those who read them to watch these two powerful films. They both fall into my “top 10” fav movies.

A voiceover by one of the main characters (Ada as played by Nicole Kidman) at the end of the fantastic movie “Cold Mountain.”

“I looked once more down Sally's well, and this time there was nothin' there to haunt me. Just clouds. Clouds, and then---sun.”

The below quote is an exchange at the end of the movie “A Perfect World” (in my top 5 fav films) between a court appointed criminologist and a hard nosed Texas Ranger (played by the amazing Eastwood).

Criminologist: “You did everything you could. You know that.”
Eastwood: “I don't know nothin'. Not a damn thing.”

Thanks C! I haven't seen Cold Mountain yet. I'll have to check it out.

Cold Mountain also has a great soundtrack, if you're in to that old-timey kind of music. I'm listening to it today.

You the bad thing is I think I get this way about men and love, but that is whole 'nother discussion in itself. I could send you a link about an article criticizing free love, saying love is supposed to be possessive, that is why it is like a blazing fire set as a seal on your arm, or something to that affect from the OT, Song of Songs I think.

Send it on Olympiada. Song of Solomon is one of my favorite books of the Bible.

Ange - It is on this site Frederica and it is under articles and the title is "Free Love Didn't Come Cheap". I have to admit I kind of got into it with this lady, after she asked me to pray for her, and I got to write her and apologize. She is a conservative baby boomer IMHO although she considers her self to be a hippie earth mother. Well I am the hippie earth mother and I do not think she is one, but I am also quite arrogant. ;) BTW The Song of Songs is hot . I have not read it. I am afraid to. I am afraid of true love. I am afraid it will burn me up. You sound like you have read it. You sound like you are well versed in scripture, especially OT. I am not, especially not OT. In fact I have a grudge against OT because of Rastafari.

Ange - by the way my child's father had an ex-live in girlfriend named Ange, and an ex-housemate named Ange! No accident indeed!
