Cornel West Quote of the Day

"I remain a Christian
- primarily because the concrete example of love and compassion of Jesus
rendered in the Biblical Gospel narratives
constitutes the most absurd and alluring
mode of being
in the
tragicomic world."

I like this quote. I've always looked at West with a slight suspicion, but then again my exposure to his "theology/philosophy" has been limited. I like the way he calls it absurd, and he's spot on with his definition of the world. I love the world, life, even though it is such though.

Cornel West comes regularly to our church. I have met him and my son has had dinner with him. I have heard more sermons than I could ever hope to count over my lifetime, the one sermon that singularly stands out heads above the rest is the last one I heard preached by Cornel West. I have never felt more deeply ministered to in my life.Even though he travels to so many places when he comes to our church he spends hours talking to those who line up just to meet him. He greets everyone as if they are the only one in line and as if he has all the time in the world.
One genuinely awesome dude.

Angevoix,

What was "the one sermon that singularly stands out heads above the rest" about? I'm genuinely interested. It must have been very powerful and essential to everything that Christ is.

You can actually listen to the sermon via the St. Sabina link.
I can respond in depth to this later though if you would like.
