Does this mean that only the thirsty find the desert beautiful?

Jazztheo, you never cease to amaze me...

I can tell you this. In my own walk when I go through trials, especailly the ones that I did nothing to bring about on my own, it seems as if a v ery special grace is bestowed upon me at those times. So much so that in retrospect I am can even get whistful about those moments...

Hmmm, I wonder if the desert is only beautiful in retrospect. If it kills you off, it's hard to appreciate the stark quality of the beauty. I'm thinking many things of many things, but particularly of the folks who didn't make it through Katrina and its aftermath.

I think seeing as how the story is a allegory...the sentiment was meant along the same lines as "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." But also there are those who take the attitude of Job, " Though He slay me, yet will I praise Him." Or the attitude of Paul, "For me to live is Christ, to die is gain." As Chirstians we don't always see our salvation or "well" as coming this side of glory, as with the case of my father who died of cancer in '84.We prayed for his healing, but he didn't receive it here.

I have four quotes on the cover page of my planner one of which is from "The Little Prince."

"It is with the heart that one sees rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
--Antoine de Saint Exupery

Now, that's sacramental!
