You may or may not know this, but I was married to a man from India for 8 years. We have two sons and have been divorced for a little over ten years. Despite this fact, it is only recently that I have become interested in Indian cinema. If you have not been exposed to Bollywood, the name for Bombay's movie industry, they are unashamedly the biggest film producers in the world and they play by no one's rules but their own. Every Indian film is a musical with several obligatory song and dance routines incorporated into the movie. More often than not the plot involves lovers for whom it seems the whole universe is conspiring to keep apart.
Nobody does romance like Bollywood. The lovers dance, prance, flirt and sing through fields of wildflowers. They embrace in the pouring rain. They swing back and forth in the moonlight, and dance under waterfalls, all the while singing of timeless passion that burns like a flame.
However sweet and sometimes silly these scenes come across, recently I have found myself facsinated with them. And the funny thing is that I think of them most often when contemplating intimacy with God. In fact, it seems as if to me God is beckoning me to let go and allow him to woo me with this same type of abandon. I've been in love, as has most everyone. And when you're in love, and its new, doesn't it seem like nothing can touch you? you can lose your job, you car and the roof over your head and you don't care...because you've found something money can't buy...you're in love.

Excuse me, I have a field to prance across with the lover of my soul...

Well, I've always toyed with the idea of seeing something from Bollywood, but never got around to doing it. Do you have any recommendations? Do you get them from video outlets?

DEVDAS!!!! We have what we call "India Town" here in Chicago. It is a thriving community with a multitude of video stores.

Also the photo on this post is from Veer-Raaza. A little silly, but I still enjoyed it.

I like blogs because you can learn so much about people.... not just facts, but you also get a glimpse into their soul. Wonderful post.

Bollywood is something I am still learning about, I have seen only a handful of indian films even though my husband is Indian.

But What I do see, I do enjoy..

Hey Gorigirl! Welcome! I checked out your blog and will be going back for a visit when I have a little more time to read. People who know me are always amazed by how much I still love India even though I am divorced, but I always tell them that I married because I fell in love with India not the person. The love for India has endured.
