Persepolis 1 & 2
This is page one of Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi. It is the autobiographical story of a child in Iran just trying her best to grow up. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is a beautiful read. Don't let the unique format fool you. It can be deeply touching and heart wrenching. She also wrote a sequal Persepolis 2, which I find to be as equally appealing. It certainly gives the "enemy" a very human face...

Islam worries me. Worries me a lot. I keep hearing from some quarters that it is a religion of peace etc...but...(I'm shaking my head from side to side)
I wonder if religions go through cycles. Would Christianity have been considered a religion of peace during the Crusades, even by its adherents? Can it be considered a religion of peace now?
I know this is harping, but I really have to recommend Irshad Manjit's The Trouble With Islam. It was a great book written by an "insider".

I haven't read her book (though I've flipped through it briefly), but I did see her on CSPAN give a lecture regarding the topic of her book followed by Q&A. She was so impressive intellectually that I listened to her entire presentation.
She's a "target" among her own religious community.
Well, I already posted my thoughts on the subject of Islam and peace on Fr. Neo's blog. But isn't the depiction of the girl's reaction to the veil darling in a very poignant way? Children are children the world over... how sad that they pay so harshly for our failures.
